Discovering South Carolina's beautiful waterways continued...

Paddle power!  That is the way more and more people are discovering South Carolina as they take time to slow down, relax and explore parts of the Palmetto State rarely seen by others.  These are magical places where you can get close to nature, wildlife and experience isolation.

  • Canoe, kayak or tube the three-mile historic Congaree River trip from the West Columbia River Walk or Senate Street Landing to the Cayce Landing.  Fish for a striped bass.
  • Canoe or kayak Congaree Creek from the US321 landing to the take out near 12th Street.
  • Canoe or kayak Cedar Creek in Congaree National Park.
  • Take your white water kayak to the north end of the Riverbanks Zoo parking lot and experience the pop-up hole in Mill Race Rapids.
  • Take two days and paddle the Congaree River down to the US601 Bridge seeing the edges of Congaree Swamp and camping on the sandbars.
  • Go to the Hilton Landing on Lake Murray, sea kayak out and explore the remote islands.
  • Paddle the Saluda River from Lake Greenwood to Lake Murray.
  • Paddle any stretch of the Edisto River and enjoy its cold, rich black-water and luxuriant foliage.  Fish for a redbreast or catfish.
  • Explore the recreational lake at Lake Monticello and see lots of wildlife.
